Tamara Ralph Couture Fall 2023
Tamara Ralph was back and ready to make a statement with the debut of her couture collection. Exploring strength in femininity, her gowns — in white satin, sorbet-hued taffeta or deepest black velvet — were set off by armor-like detailing, encrusted with crystals as a cage-like structure supporting the bodice or back.
Evocations of chain mail were adorned with hundreds of pearls, either as a total look or jingling on the hem of a white tweed jacket and matching cropped pants. A more traditionally feminine motif, the rose, was worked in a variety of ways, from a take on the power shoulder in the form of a 3D bouquet in white on a black velvet column dress, via bodice details to a barely there top put together like jewelry, its blooms set with a multitude of pale pink crystals.

Giant ruffles, double-layered billowing capes, flowing bows and layers of pleated gold moiré made for statement silhouettes as Ralph set out to show she has what it takes to go it alone…or almost: when she took her bow, it was with her toddler daughter in her arms, followed by the white-coated team from her atelier, many of whom have joined her from Ralph & Russo, her former venture that went into administration two years ago.
