Tambor Won't Return to Season 5 of 'Transparent'
Jeffrey Tambor will not be returning to the fifth season of Transparent, according to CNN. Tambor was the series lead, playing Maura Pfefferman, a father who comes out as transgender to his wife and children. The allegations came from Tambor's former assistant, Van Barnes, and Transparent actress Trace Lysette. Barnes said Tambor had made lewd and sexually suggestive remarks to her on a number of occasions, and Lysette said Tambor had made sexual advances and comments toward her.
This decision comes after an internal investigation by Amazon, was confirmed by an Amazon spokesperson on Thursday. The actor has said the allegations against him were "simply and utterly untrue." In a statement, Tambor said that he was "profoundly disappointed in Amazon's handling of these false accusations against me." He also criticized the company for their investigation, saying it "was deeply flawed and biased toward the toxic politicized atmosphere that afflicted our set."
In a statement obtained by CNN on Thursday, Transparent creator Jill Soloway said that she was grateful for those who have spoken out about their experience.
"We are grateful to the many trans people who have supported our vision for 'Transparent' since its inception and remain heartbroken about the pain and mistrust their experience has generated in our community," she said. "We are taking definitive action to ensure our workplace respects the safety and dignity of every individual, and are taking steps to heal as a family."
In his statement, Tambor also called out Soloway for her "unfair characterization" of him. "In our four-year history of working together on this incredible show, these accusations have NEVER been revealed or discussed directly with me or anyone at Amazon."
Tambor, 73, won two Emmys for his role on the award-winning show.
