Tamirat Tola Wins The New York City Marathon 2023 in Vibrant Adidas Sneakers
Tamirat Tola set a new record for the New York City Marathon this weekend.
While kicking off fall with the city-wide race, Tola completed the 2023 New York City Marathon’s 26.2 miles with a time of 2 hours, 4 minutes and 58 seconds, according to NBC News. For the occasion, the Ethiopian runner wore a pair of white and pink Adidas sneakers with exaggerated outsoles and thin front laces, given a graphic punch with wide black side stripes.

Tola’s time set a new record for the marathon; previously, Geoffrey Mutai established the race record with a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes and 6 seconds in 2011, according to NBC News. As FN previously reported, Tola’s record is the latest to be broken in 2023, following Kelvin Kiptum’s win of 2 hours and 35 seconds at the 2023 Chicago Marathon in October — which also set an all-time world record for men’s marathon running.
During the NYC Marathon, Kenyan runner Hellen Obiri won the women’s race with a time of 2 hours, 27 minutes and 23 seconds, according to NBC News. For the occasion, the athlete wore On Running sneakers with narrow toes, rubber outsoles and paneled white and light blue uppers, as well as a tank top and running shorts from the FNAA-winning brand.

Obiri’s winning race also marked a victory for On, which shared news of her win on social media.
In 2022, the Marathon was previously won by Evans Chebet and Sharon Lokedi, who were respectively sponsored for the event by Adidas and Under Armour.
The New York City Marathon is held every year with a 26.2 mile-long race across New York City’s five boroughs. The 2023 race featured Tamirat Tola and Hellen Obiri as its top winners in the men’s and women’s divisions, while Catherine Debrunner won the women’s wheelchair race. Stars including Cody Ko, David Muir, Matt James and Joe Amabile also participated in the course.
