Taraji P. Henson Shares Her Must-Have Beauty Product For Glowing Skin
Taraji P. Henson may be best known for her role as Cookie on the hit show Empire, but the actress is gearing up to appear on TV screens in a whole new way. In just a few weeks, Henson will be featured in skin care giant Olay's star-studded Super Bowl commercial. And in honor of her upcoming Super Bowl debut, Henson, 49, shared the secrets to her own glowing complexion.
The actress says that rather than having an extensive 20-step skin-care regimen, she has a few straight-forward, easy-to-follow tips that she lives by.
"I just keep it really simple," Henson tells Woman's Day. "I don’t have a lot of products. I wash my makeup off, I don’t sleep in makeup, I drink lots and lots of water, and I get rest. That’s literally my secret."
There is, however, one skin-care product — known for its hydrating, brightening, and collagen promoting benefits — that she absolutely cannot live without.
"I love vitamin C serum," Henson said. "If I had to be stuck on an island and I could only take one product, it would definitely be my vitamin C serum."
Henson will star in the Olay commercial alongside women from a wide range of professions: actress and writer Busy Philipps, journalist Katie Couric, astronaut Nicole Stott, and talk show host Lilly Singh. And with the typical Super Bowl ad being targeted towards men, Olay and Henson are both extremely proud to be making an ad for the 45% of Super Bowl watchers who are female.
"That’s what I found so refreshing about the Olay commercial," Henson said. "I think it’s very interesting that on the highest driven testosterone day, here come the women with a message for women and I love it. I absolutely love it."
All of the women featured in the ad represent ages from 31 to 63, bringing a inclusive focus that's often left out of the skin-care industry.
"That’s what Olay represents," Henson said. "Olay for as many years as I can remember, they represent women, every kind of woman, and so I’ve always been a fan of the brand. I was really quite honored that they thought of me for this campaign, I am just honored. And certainly doing a Super Bowl commercial is something that I get to check off my bucket list."
To celebrate the commercial, and promote women in STEM — another area where women lack representation — Olay will donate a dollar (up to $500,000) to Girls Who Code every time someone tags @Olay and use the hashtag #MakeSpaceForWomen on Twitter starting January 15 through the end of the Super Bowl. Henson says that she hopes that this instance of women empowering other women will inspire others, and most importantly, the future generation, to do the same.
"If you follow me, you know that I am for women, we are all we got and if we don’t stick together then we will fall apart, so I’ve always been a champion for everything women," Henson said. "And here I am because if we stick together now, we show the girls coming behind us how it’s done."
The Super Bowl airs February 2 at 6:30 p.m. EST on Fox.
