Target's Redesign Might Make It Possible To Actually Do A Quick Shop
Target announced a slew of new stores and remodeling plans this week, with designs that will change the way you shop as soon as you enter the store.
In an effort to compete with online retailers and keep people coming into Target, the company is remodeling more than 1,000 stores between now and 2020. They have just over 1,800 across the country. The biggest change will come right when you walk in, with two distinct entrances geared toward different shoppers.
One door is meant for people in a rush, with grab-and-go food and drinks, an online-order pickup counter, and the wine and beer shop all right up front ($5 wines included, hallelujah). The second door is for wandering-around-Target kind of days, with Target-exclusive brands and seasonal items in the front.
Aside from the store's layout, the redesign will include stenciled floors, unique lighting, and wood-paneled walls and beams, Consumerist reports. The aisles will also be slightly curved, which is supposed to make certain products stand out more.
Target is also opening dozens more stores this year and next, including several "small-format" stores - those are the mini-Targets usually found in college towns and urban areas. New locations for these smaller stores include New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia.
The last bit of exciting news is about Target Restock, which lets customers order essentials like laundry supplies, toilet paper, and snacks that will be delivered the next day. You used to have to place a Restock order by 2 p.m. to get it the next day, but they've now stretched that to 7 p.m. The service is available in 11 cities so far, but will be offered nationwide by the end of next year.
If you're a Target lover (and if you're not, what are you doing?),you can take comfort knowing Target is definitely not going anywhere anytime soon, despite other retailers closing stores down on the reg.
