Target's New Denim Boots Stir Up Mixed Reactions Online

Target store in Mountain View, California.

Target added a trendy new pair of denim boots to its collection, and let's just say the release probably wasn't received as well as the department store had hoped.

The shoes were first spotted by Ashley, who runs the Instagram account Targettrendsetter. Earlier this week, she shared a brief video showing off the new style alongside some info in the caption. "OMG ?? There’s literally only one person who I think can pull these off," Ashley wrote in part. "LMK if you would wear them. ($50) ? not online yet."

After the clip of the Target influencer finding the jean-style boots–also known as 'joots'–in the wild at a local store was uploaded to social media, shoppers had a lot to say about the design and not all of the feedback was positive.

The short clip was enough to get the attention of a crowd, who compared the boots to that of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake's iconic all-denim ensembles at the 2001 American Music Awards.

"Is it bad my brain went to the iconic Britney-Justin couples outfit?" one top-liked comment quipped.

"What in the Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake hell are these???" another joked.

"Look Justin N Britney left a piece of 2001 AMA’s outfits in Target ??," a third shared.

"Joots," someone else simply wrote.

Other Instagram users criticized the new fashion, leaving comments like "Um absolutely not. Those are hideous ??," "Ick," and "No ma’am."

Mockery aside, a handful of users on the picture-sharing platform seemed to approve of the heeled denim boot.

"Don’t hate me but I kinda low key love these," one admitted.

"I actually kinda like them lol," a second confessed. "Wouldn’t look good on me though."

"Not gonna lie, I’m not mad about it hahaha," someone else shared.

Another tagged Dolly Parton, claiming she's one of the few who could rock the so-called "joots."

To each their own!
