A stock $450 Silca Super Pista floor pump is quite exclusive, but a Super Pista hand painted by Taylor Phinney is one of a kind.
Two unique Super Pistas hand-painted by Phinney will be auctioned off this month, with the proceeds going to the The Davis Phinney Foundation. The foundation is named for Taylor’s father, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease; the organization was founded in 2004 with the goal of helping people with Parkinson's maintain a high quality of life.
The first pump, titled The Joker, is already up for auction in The Pro’s Closet eBay store. As of this writing, the current high bid is $1,675. The second pump, titled Stitches, goes up for auction on December 7th.

Phinney carried the pumps on the road with him and worked on them as he traveled. “I took black paint, and a white acrylic marker, and this teal marker with me to the Tour of Utah, USA Pro Challenge, Belgium, for a team time trial training camp, and then the Tour of Britain. So it was over the course of about six weeks that I had these with me and just kinda played with them… pieces from note books, there a little joker card in there…” he says in the video embedded below.
The pumps are more than painted by Phinney; they’re reflections of him, featuring representations of scars and stitches—a reference to Phinney’s horrific accident in the 2014 national road race championships—and an illustration Phinney had tattooed on his right forearm.
Phinney’s pumps join a growing list of custom-painted Super Pistas. Other artists include Michael Corby, Joe Bell for Richard Sachs, and Dario Pegoretti.
The Silca Super Pista is the most outrageous pump in the world, and intended to be the last floor pump a rider ever needs to purchase. It’s backed by a 25-year warranty, and built with details like a 12,000psi hose, custom machined flex fittings with 360 degrees of movement, a stainless-steel chuck, heavy cast-zinc base, gauge with +/- 1% accuracy, rosewood handle, and Silca’s signature leather washer.
