Taylor Swift Apologizes On Stage After Tour Blunder
The 'Anti-Hero' singer is owning up to a pretty big mistake.
Everybody makes mistakes—even Taylor Swift.
On the first night of the fourth weekend of her record-breaking Era's Tour, last night, April 13 in Tampa, Florida, the superstar songstress made a rather egregious one, but she quickly noticed the error of her ways and made sure to rectify it.
At some point near the beginning of the show, Swift always draws attention back to her opening performers, calling for another round of applause for them from the crowd. At night one at the Raymond James Stadium, GAYLE and beabadoobee played before Swift, but the "Anti-Hero" singer accidentally named Gracie Abrams—who does open for her on other dates, including nights two and three in Tampa—in place of GAYLE.
Given the nine different artists that cycle through the two opening slots across 51 North American shows, we can understand how Swift might get a little confused, but by the time she sat down at her moss-covered piano to play "Champagne Problems," she'd gotten her names straight and ensured the record was, too.
One fan named Ori caught the moment on camera and shared it on Twitter, while another fan account reposted it to TikTok, where it quickly took off, racking up nearly 146k likes overnight.
In the footage, Swift seems to have been talking about what the number 13—her lucky number, and the day's date—has historically meant for her. "But tonight, it is actually also the exact number of brain cells that I have," she joked. "Because earlier, I told you that Gracie Abrams opened the show. That's not correct. That is absolutely not correct."
She continued, "Gayle opened the show, and she was phenomenal! And I feel so awful that I'm gonna get both Gracie and Gayle—and also beabadoobee, because she had to bear witness to this in some proximity—lots of presents. Because I feel terrible, I love Gayle; she's a fellow Nashville girl and she's such a legit singer-songwriter."
Before moving on, she requested the audience give it up for Gayle again and apologized once more.
Neither Gayle nor Abrams have addressed the mixup, but we feel pretty confident in assuming they forgive her.
