Taylor Swift Eras Tour Responsible for 70% of North American Box Office
Women are making their mark at the box office this year with Greta Gerwig's Barbie becoming the highest-grossing film of 2023 so far, and now Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is reported to be responsible for 70% of the overall North American box office this weekend.
Across 3855 theaters, the concert film raked in $96 million domestically, as per Box Office Mojo, with a further $32 million coming in from overseas, generating a global opening weekend of $128 million.
A ticket to Taylor Swift's Eras Tour was near impossible to get, so much so it caught the attention of President Biden, who proposed legislation titled the Junk Fee Protection Act to tackle excessive fees.
Having a theatrical release of a condensed version of the show has allowed fans who missed out on a chance to get a slice of the action.
Reports out of theaters this week have shown fans singing loudly, dancing and enjoying every second of seeing the concert on the big screen.
Actor Taylor Lautner was also seen getting involved in the fun at a movie theater where he was doing back flips for fans.
Critics are even praising the concert film, calling it a "dazzling achievement" and "one of the most immersive concert film experiences ever shot".
The film currently holds a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score from 32 critic reviews and a 99% audience score from 1000+ verified ratings.
