Taylor Swift Postpones Brazil Show Amid 'Extreme' Heat, Fan’s Tragic Death

Taylor Swift has officially postponed her second Eras Tour show in Brazil as the result of the sweltering heat in Rio de Janeiro.

After the pop star's first night in Rio on Friday, Nov. 17—during which more than 100 of fans reportedly fainted and more begged for water—Swift, 33, announced the decision to hold off on taking the stage again for her show scheduled on Saturday, Nov. 18.

She shared the news with her fans via social media, stating in an Instagram Story, "I'm writing this from my dressing room in the stadium. The decision has been made to postpone tonight's show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio."

"The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first," the "Anti-Hero" songstress added.

Despite those who were looking forward to Swift's performance on Saturday, the decision to postpone comes after harrowing conditions during Friday night's show, as temperatures reportedly reached 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

As reported by local newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo, firefighters at the scene estimated that nearly hundreds of concertgoers fainted throughout the night. One fan, Ana Clara Benevides Machado, tragically died before the show started. She was only 23, according to the publication.

Swift took to Instagram after hearing the news to speak out about the fan's death, telling her fans, "I can't believe I'm writing these words, but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show. I can't even tell you how devastated I am by this."

As she continued, the "Bejeweled" singer insisted that she had "very little information" regarding the fan, who she didn't name, but said she was "so incredibly beautiful and far too young."

"I'm not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even tried to talk about it," Swift added. "I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil."
