What Taylor Swift Really Thought of Travis Kelce Before Meeting Him
Ben Marshall; Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
In March 2023, Travis Kelce hosted Saturday Night Live—and evidently, his performance on the sketch comedy series made a big impression on Taylor Swift long before they met.
Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy, SNL writers who make up the comedy group Please Don't Destroy, appeared on a recent episode of Mike Birbiglia's Working It Out podcast. During the Feb. 26 episode, Marshall dished on a previously unknown tidbit regarding Swift's opinion of Kelce before they became Tayvis/Swelce.
"We worked with both Taylor and Travis Kelce before they got together," he said. "...She kinda told us she watched his SNL episode and saw him in our video and was like, 'Oh, this guy seems funny.'"
Marshall joked that his comedy group "a little bit brought them together."
Both Kelce and Swift have a history with SNL. Fans likely remember when the Kansas City Chiefs tight end hosted the comedy show in March 2023, fresh off the team's Super Bowl LVII win against the Philadelphia Eagles. During his hosting stint, he memorably participated in a skit titled, "NFL Gives Back," where he lifted "women whose boyfriends can't pick them up."
Swift, meanwhile, has hosted and served as the musical guest for SNL multiple times through the years. In 2021, she starred in a musical skit alongside Please Don't Destroy and Pete Davidson in "Three Sad Virgins."
After Kelce and Swift went public with their relationship in September 2023, they made surprise SNL cameos on the Oct. 14 episode. Swift introduced her pal, Ice Spice as the musical guest, and Kelce appeared in a "Fox NFL Sunday" skit.
Hopefully, that wasn't the last time Kelce and Swift will appear on the sketch comedy series—and hopefully, they don't break up because Swifties will definitely blame Please Don't Destroy now.
