Patrick Mahomes is supporting teammate and close friend Travis Kelce's developing romance with Taylor Swift, discussing in a new interview with ESPN how he feels about the singer and why the relationship isn't a hindrance to Kelce or the Kansas City Chiefs.
ESPN's Jeff Darlington sat down with Mahomes about upcoming games for the Chiefs and their newest fan, Swift. Mahomes said of the "Cruel Summer" singer, "I've been lucky enough to meet Taylor and see how good of a person she is."
He emphasized that the attention on Swift and Kelce doesn't affect how they play the game: "I think you can understand why it's not become a distraction or anything like that because everybody cares about being the best they can be every day."
The sports reporter also addressed how the hype about the relationship has brought more attention to the team itself, asking if it feels any different than winning two Super Bowls.
Mahomes replied no, before seeming to say that he understands why people are so excited about their romance.
"People see the whole Taylor Swift and Travis [thing], and they make it a huge deal because it is a huge deal," he told Darlington. "I think it becomes a bigger deal to the fan bases than it does to the guys who are actually in the building."
While Mahomes appears fully focused on the rest of the football season, he also noted that he is interested in possibly seeing Swift in concert.
"We'll see when we get to the off-season, maybe I'm traveling to Europe to go to a concert or something," he said.
Mahomes and Kelce have been teammates and close friends since the former was drafted by the Chiefs in 2017.
