Ticket sales for the film, which premieres on Oct. 13, broke records as the highest advance sales in AMC’s 103-Year History. It even surpassed AMC’s prior first day record holder Spider-Man: No Way Home which sold $16.9 million in tickets.
What an epic spring and summer it has been for Taylor Swift. This past March her Eras Tour kicked off in Glendale, Arizona and has been breaking records ever since.
Performing 44 songs in 10 acts, representing various eras of Swift’s life and career, the mega-talented artist is making her way around the globe in 146 concerts. (Swift just completed the North American leg of the tour. This November it picks up in Argentina.) Pollstar, the trade publication that covers the concert industry estimates that each concert sells around $14 million in tickets and that ticket sales could reach $1.4 billion or more by the end of the tour in 2024.
For devoted Swifties, the concert movie cannot come sooner. “Taylor Swift is a celebrity who is super relatable. She writes about things that happen—things you wish would happen—you dreamed of happening—if you had had the right words you would have written yourself when you were young,” says Cathy Ray, a Swiftie who has seen the megastar three times and was struck by how her mother walked the floor greeting people before the concert.
"She is a great role model for young women, has stuck up for what she believes in, knows her worth and has what seems to be a loving family. Her work ethic is super impressive and I am in awe of her,” Ray continued. “I mean, singing for 3.5 hours with multiple costume changes and still sounding the same night after night is mind blowing.”
