Teacher arrested after throwing teen party for kids who drank alcohol until they ‘vigorously’ vomited
A former seventh-grade science teacher at Lampasas Middle School in Texas is free on bond after she was arrested and charged with purchasing/furnishing alcohol to a minor, a class A misdemeanor.
Christie Searl Miller, 46, of Kempner, allegedly provided alcohol to a group of 14-and 15-year old boys and girls at a gathering in her backyard on the weekend of Feb. 16 to 17. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, which was released Friday, some of the minors drank until they vomited or could not remember the night.
KWTX reports that Superintendent Chane Rascoe placed Miller, who had been with the district for ten years, on administrative leave following an investigation which was launched after officials learned of the allegations against her on Monday. On Wednesday, Miller resigned and was arrested.
Lampasas County investigators interviewed the teenagers involved in the incident. They claimed Miller provided them with a thermos of vodka and a bottle of Bacardi rum.
According to KWTX, one teenager told investigators that Miller “cautioned the children to wait for Miller’s husband to go to bed before the children could start drinking the alcohol.” However, another said that “Miller’s daughter cautioned the children to wait until Miller’s husband went to bed to consume alcohol.”
Miller told an investigator on Tuesday that she had picked her daughter and her friends up and taken them to her home “so that they could socialize.” Before picking them up, she stopped to buy food for the teenagers and purchased a bottle of Bacardi for herself. She went on to claim she left the children in her backyard for one hour, and when she went to check on the children she “found that they had been drinking and one child was sick.” The affidavit reads, “Miller alleges that Miller’s daughter was the one to provide alcohol to the children.” Miller denied “that she was aware the children consumed alcohol until after one of the children became ill.”
One boy reportedly told investigators he consumed alcohol “to the point that he cannot remember any further details of the night.” A 14-year-old girl claimed she “began ‘vigorously’ vomiting after consuming alcohol.” One teenager “consumed alcohol to the point that he was stumbling and vomited” before he passed out.
Two 15-year-old boys corroborated the other teenagers’ accounts. A 16-year-old boy, who drove himself to the home later, said that when he arrived the teens “had already consumed alcohol” and that one “was observed to be ill.”
Miller posted a $2,500 bond after her arrest on Wednesday and was released.
