Team USA's Chloe Kim Wins Snowboard Gold Medal
Speaking with Cosmopolitan.com in the run up to the PyeongChang Olympics, teen snowboarding sensation Chloe Kim kept it modest: “I’m just having fun,” she explained of her record-breaking career on the slopes, adding that she'd simply "see what happens" at the Games.
Well, what happened is that she kicked ass! (As she had been widely favorited to do.) Wearing the #1 jersey as if it were always meant to be, Kim blew away the her competition in the women's half-pipe competition, with both her runs topping the 90-point mark - a level none of her fellow boarders reached. Kim proved to be so much in a league of her own that she didn't even need her second run to land the goal, but she went for it anyway.... and scored 98.25 points. Nbd, right?! See some of her highlights from the competition below:
Kim is the youngest female U.S. athlete to land an Olympic gold medal for snowboarding, following her also-teen teammate Red Gerard, who won out in the men's slopestyle event over the weekend. As she took to the podium, her teary/excited faces were also just perfect:
China's Liu Jiayu took the silver medal, with Team USA's Arielle Gold landing the bronze. (Team USA's snowboarding veteran Kelly Clark just missed out on a medal, finishing in fourth place.)
