A 17-year-old from Southgate, Mich., was charged Tuesday with filing a false police report.

Faith Gentry allegedly told officers that she was pulled over by a man impersonating a Wyandotte police officer around 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28. Last week, Gentry told Fox 2 the details of the “incident,” stating, “I was coming down southbound down Fort and this ‘cop’ put his lights on and I pulled over. He did have a badge on his shoulder and the button-up (shirt) and the belt but the only thing on his belt was a gun.”

The man impersonating the officer, according to Gentry, said that her blinker was out and that he couldn’t see her license plate, despite her car being recently serviced. He said she would get a ticket in the mail.

She described the suspect to police as a tall African-American. However, Southgate Police Department determined, early in their investigation, that the story did not add up and, this weekend, Gentry confessed that she fabricated the story.

During her arraignment, she remained silent and did not enter a guilty or not guilty plea. Judges will take this as a not guilty plea. Her bond was set at $25,000 and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for March 8.

“Public safety is our main concern and we cannot have or tolerate (hoaxes) and fear being put into our residents minds,” a statement from Southgate police read, according to the News Herald. “The police officers out working the streets of Downriver cannot do their jobs (efficiently and effectively) with this type of behavior.”
