Idaho teen, 17, asks his grandma to junior prom — she delivers promposal to accept
An Idaho teen is preparing himself for an unforgettable prom night after snagging a very special date — his grandma.
Kody Leonard’s junior prom at Minico High School in Rupert, Idaho is just over a week away. But he only just locked in his date on Friday when his grandma, Sindy Gray, finally responded to his promposal.
In a video posted to Leonard’s Facebook page on Feb. 28, the 17-year-old shared the creative way that he extended an invitation to Gray, 64, by having her put together a puzzle with a photo of the grandmother-grandson pair and “Will you go to prom with me?” written on the back. Just over a week after his ask, which brought Gray to tears, she finally came up with an original way to accept his offer.
“The way that she answered was by using a big red wooden chair and having a sign on it that said, ‘Kody’s in time out for making his grandma cry,’” Leonard explains to Yahoo Lifestyle. “She was thinking of a creative way and said that she can put me in time out.”
A video of the adorable moment was also posted to Facebook, where people have since commented to say, “This is going to be such a great memory.” Leonard assures Yahoo Lifestyle that this isn’t the only positive feedback that he has gotten regarding the ask.
“I told a lot of my friends before I asked my grandma. They gave me tips on how to ask and they thought this idea was a very cute one,” he says. “They have been pretty supportive of this.”
The ask has been a long time coming, according to the teen, who explains that he’s always wanted to bring his grandma to prom when it came time for him to attend because she never had the opportunity to go while in high school.
“My grandma has done so much for me and I wanted to do something back,” he says. “The thing I am most excited about is sharing this experience with her.”
Now, Leonard says that the pair is preparing for the April 20 dance by getting his tuxedo to match his grandma’s blue dress. He also plans on learning a dance to one of Gray’s favorite songs.
