As we look forward to Princess Eugenie of York's wedding next month, there's one question we've been pondering on the fashion desk. Of course, there's been a lot of predicting what the bride herself will wear (will it be a sweetheart neckline, lace-sleeves à la the Duchess of Cambridge, or perhaps a Duchess of Sussex-esque bardot style?) but really we all want to know what her mother, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York will be wearing.

From power suits to puffball dresses, over her 40 years in the spotlight Fergie has dipped her toe in many a fashion trend, so there's ample choice for her mother of the bride look. Will she opt for a fuchsia suit? Or could she opt for a pretty floral frock? Here's how we'd dress her...

Admittedly a little OTT for a wedding, but hey, a Royal Wedding isnt the time to play the "this old thing" game. Brock Collection's sumptuous satins are appropriately regal while steering clear of eveningwear territory, while a dress coat will come in handy in blustery St George's Chapel. SW

For me, Fergie's style was ideal during her heady Eighties heyday when a simple fuchsia satin puff sleeve was a go-to for any kind of low key mid-afternoon Royal engagement. In many ways, Fergie and Escada have a lot in common, acceptable in the Eighties, both attempting a comeback of sorts. Why not join forces! This slinky - shall we call it magenta -  trouser suit would off set those Titian locks a treat, and offer keen opportunity to make sure one is unmissable in the official photos. VM

Over the years Fergie’s sported more power suits than almost anyone else. While the big shoulders and wide lapels of the 80s suited her perfectly, I’d like to see her in something a little more demure and that doesn’t detract so much from her gorgeous, fiery locks. This pastel hued suit from Sies Marjan’s AW18 collection has the right amount of colour for the Duchess’ style but is a little more Mother-of-the-Bride.  ML

A jaunty hat and gloves

From looking through past photos of Fergie's style it's clear she loves an Eighties power shoulder, a quirky pattern and a jaunty hat. This look from Moschino nails all three. Plus, it features gloves which from Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding we know she loves. Maybe this time she'll even wear both. CMD

I'm not much of a fan of traditional mother-of-the-bride dressing: something about a structured pastel dress, sculptural hat and boring heels just doesn't scream that you're there to have a fun day. Instead, I'd advise Fergie wear a slick shirt dress and block heeled mules, with pearl Simone Rocha slides in her hair and a red pout. So chic. KT

Florals are an easy winner

A hat, a fluffy sock, an eighties floral print, this Mulberry look ticks every box when it comes to Fergie attending a wedding. It doesn't quite steal the show, but comes a close second like every mother of the bride should. APB
