Whether you refuse to sleep on anything but 500-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets, or you’re still using the $25 set you bought back in college, I’d like to offer some advice: Invest in bamboo sheets. Why, you ask? Well, they’re incredibly soft, eco-friendly, ultra-breathable and moisture-wicking…basically everything you want in a bedding set.

So, not only did I have PureWow editors test the four best bamboo sheets on the market, but I’ve also included five reviewer-worthy sets—plus a comprehensive guide to finding the best bamboo sheets for your sleep style. From viscose and lyocell numbers to luxurious sateen weaves that basically melt on the skin, here are the best bamboo sheets money can buy.

The Best Bamboo Sheets at a Glance

How We Tested the Best Bamboo Sheets

First, I rounded up a list of the top-reviewed bamboo sheets on the market. Then, I made sure each editor slept on the sheets for 30+ days—and washed/dried them at least once. After a month of testing and washing, I narrowed down each selection based on whether it was a) buttery soft or smooth enough to feel comfortable instead of scratchy, b) cooling or breathable for hot sleepers and c) durable enough to hold up in the wash without pilling or tearing.

The Top 4 Bamboo Sheets, Tested by Editors

1. Quince Bamboo Sheet Set

Quince

For those who don’t know, Quince is known for its luxurious linens—which span from bedding to towels to rugs—and everything is manufactured with sustainability in mind. Hence, why it makes sense that its bamboo sheet set would be made from the finest viscose from organic bamboo with a silky smooth sateen weave. Not only does it promise moisture-wicking properties that’ll keep sweaty sleepers dry all night long, but they’re temperature regulating, so they’ll adjust to each season (making it a great year-round option): “These sheets are great for hot sleepers—they're light and soft to the touch and very cooling,” says PureWow Executive Editor, Alexia Dellner. “They're very silky and make it easy to slip right into bed—and I found that they're less heavy (hence, why they're so great for nixing those night sweats). And despite the fact that they're quite thin, they somehow manage to get better and softer with every wash (and no wrinkles).” That said, she warns: “They're slightly shinier than other brands, so keep that in mind.”

2. Cariloha Resort Sheets

cariloha

Awarded as the most luxurious sheets in our 2023 Sleep Issue, this set from Cariloha is aptly named the Resort Sheets for its luxuriously soft sateen finish that will make you feel like you’re sleeping in a fancy hotel bed. In fact, according to the brand they’re even softer than 1,000-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets—and their cooling properties are an anomaly in a sateen sheet, where it has an intentionally loose weave to let heat dissipate (thus, keeping the fabric chill to the touch). “These sheets are so absurdly soft that I feel the need to comment on them every other night,” says Candace Davison, PureWow VP of editorial. “They've held up well over the past year (no pilling!), and they're breathable enough that you don't wake up in a puddle of sweat, even in the middle of summer.” They’re also allergen- and odor-resistant—and you can try the set for up to 100 days before making a decision (which is one of the longer trial periods we've seen).

3. Luxome Luxury Sheet Set

Amazon

Unlike other viscose bamboo options, this Luxome home option is finished with a luscious, 400-thread-count sateen weave that feels like silk on the skin. What’s more, in addition to the fiber’s naturally thermal-regulating and moisture-wicking properties, it’s also OEKO-TEX-certified, so it’s free of harmful chemicals and toxins. “These sheets keep you cool throughout the night, making them ideal for the summer months (or right now in Florida, when it’s 87 degrees in March and the A/C is busted),” says Davison. What’s more, PureWow Editor-in-Chief Jillian Quint says it mimics the feel of genuine silk: "These sheets are not expensive (in the grand scheme of sheets), but they feel SO luxurious—silky and thick at the same time…I also love how cool they stay in summer months.”

4. Cozy Earth Sheet Set

Cozy earth

Hotel linens, meet this bamboo set. With a 300-thread-count and viscose bamboo fabric, these sheets have been described as the “softest EVER” by Oprah herself—and it’s been featured in Op’s Favorite Things for five years in a row. “The second I feel them against my skin, I feel a quick little shudder of coolness,” says former PureWow Commerce Director Nicole Briese. "In fact, I worried that they might make me too cold at night at first, but that hasn't been the case—they're just right. They fit my extra-deep mattress, too!" Not only do the sheets have naturally temperature-regulating properties, thanks to the bamboo fibers, but they’re also warrantied against pilling and abnormal rips for up to 10 years. (Translation: Cozy Earth is so sure this set will hold up in the wash, they’ll replace the entire set it if it doesn’t.) Bonus: The fitted sheet stays put on mattresses up to 20 inches deep, and it comes in twin/twin XL, California king and split king sizes.

While we’re on the topic of sheets for hot sleepers—Puffy’s set is perfect for night sweats, thanks to their cooling, breathable bamboo viscose fabric. The silky-soft sateen weave, combined with a 300 thread count, ensures long-lasting comfort, while the bamboo viscose gets softer with each wash. “It has been very difficult for me to get proper rest because of having cancer for the past five years...I tend to have issues with regulating my temperature at night as I get night sweats. These bamboo sheets solved that and so much more,” one Puffy customer writes. They also add, “When I’m not able to get up and go out for a pedicure, my toenails are always scratching up (other) sheets…not these. 7. Bedsure Bamboo Sheets

amazon

Bedsure’s bamboo sheets are made from 100 percent bamboo viscose— yet what makes this set unique for those with itchy, dry or crepey skin is its lightweight build with supple texture that ~glides~ on, without causing irritation: “This was an experiment for me; I'd never heard of Bamboo sheets,” writes one Amazon reviewer. “My skin is crepe[y] and so sensitive from long-time chemo. The first night on these sheets, I slept almost 10 hours! I haven't done that for years! I thought OK, a one-time blessing... but weeks later I continue to get the deepest, most comfortable sleep ever.” The only other downside is that they’re so popular, they’re currently sold out in a few colorways.

8. LuxClub Sheet Set

Amazon

With a 4.5 out of 5-star rating out of nearly 150,000 reviews, these are the most popular bamboo sheets on Amazon—by far. Mostly, this is due to the set’s microfiber and bamboo rayon blend, which feels smooth and luxurious, and its ability to stay virtually wrinkle-free. Beyond that, however, it features 18-inch-deep pockets that’ll prevent it from slipping and sliding around your mattress and the six-piece set includes two extra pillowcases (so be prepared for guests to thank you for an extra-cool sleep).  “I have to say that these are probably the best sheets I have ever owned. They are very soft and lightweight but still warm for winter months. The reason I ordered [this set] because it has deep pockets, which are hard to come at such a good price. I was so happy the first morning I woke up and the sheets stayed exactly fitted to my pillow top mattress,” raves one Amazon reviewer.

[I] followed the washing and drying instructions and haven't noticed any pilling or shrinkage,” one person writes. What Are Bamboo Sheets?

Bamboo sheets come in a few varieties; there’s bamboo viscose, bamboo rayon, bamboo modal and bamboo lyocell. All of the fabrics are made from bamboo pulp, but the process for each material is a little different, hence the different names. If you’re looking for the most environmentally friendly option, bamboo lyocell is your best bet, since it’s sustainably made. More concerned with breathability? In that case, go with bamboo viscose.

You also want to pay attention to the thread count when you’re looking for bamboo sheets. While the optimum thread count is between 250 and 350, a 100 percent bamboo sheet with a 250 thread count should still provide that soft, cotton-like feel. Just remember, the higher the thread count, the softer the sheets.

What Do Bamboo Sheets Feel Like?

From breathable to eco-friendly to 350-thread-counts…what do all of these fabrics actually feel like? Thanks to the experts at luxury bedding company, Sunday Citizen, we have a breakdown:

What Are the Benefits of Bamboo Sheets?

For starters, bamboo is one of the most environmentally friendly materials in the world. As Wanda Thompson, creator of Householdwonders.com explains, “Since bamboo doesn’t need pesticides to grow naturally, the plant has less of a negative impact on our planet in terms of pollution.” Bamboo also absorbs five times more carbon and produces 35 percent more oxygen (which makes it a more breathable, moisture-wicking option for sweaty sleepers).

And if you’re wondering about the feel of bamboo, it’s just as plush as cotton (and, in some cases, softer). “Egyptian cotton can be extremely soft [at] high thread counts, but bamboo is naturally softer, stronger, more absorbent, more breathable and more eco-friendly than Egyptian cotton. On top of that, bamboo sheets are generally less expensive than Egyptian cotton,” Thompson adds. (More on that below.)

What Are the Downsides of Bamboo Sheets?

Per the Sunday Citizen experts, “Bamboo bed sheets often cost more than traditional cotton or polyester blend sheets. With increased quality and durability comes an increased price point, which is important to be aware of.” They also warn that you have to follow the brand’s washing instructions to prolong the sheets’ lifespan. To that end, “bamboo fabric has been known to wrinkle more quickly than alternative fabrics, meaning that a little extra care is required if you want your sheets to stay pristine on the bed! Our recommendation is to remove your sheets from the tumble dryer immediately after the drying cycle ends and spread them out flat as soon as possible to avoid creasing.”
