The $710 'We Should All Be Feminists' T-Shirt Just Sold Out Online
When the “We Should All Be Feminists” T-shirt came down the runway as a part of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s first ever Dior runway show, it kicked up quite a bit of noise. Chiuri was the first female creative director of the house and was calling for a bit of a revolution. Since then, the brand’s ambassadors have turned up everywhere in the piece. Now, only days after the piece went on presale, it’s sold out.
Retailing for a whopping $710, the piece was originally available only at Saks Fifth Avenue and in Dior boutiques. Saks even got an exclusive version of the design in black, that it is offering at the same price. That option is still available. But with that premium price point, the piece is again, understandably, causing quite a bit of conversation online.

Others joined the conversation to offer similar thoughts. “This brand of feminism is expensive,” wrote MasterDavidP. “I can’t afford to be a feminist, got student loans to pay back,” Juju Gal added. “Is Dior for real?” Emilie Yaakaar asked, saying in a reference to the feminist writer who first used the phrase in the title of her book, “And I hope all these brands are cutting checks to Chimamanda.” Presumably this is what inspired Chiuri, after Beyoncé sampled a Chimamanda speech on her self-titled album.
The commenters do have a point. Albert Samuels, a senior merchandiser for the basics brand Alternative Apparel told Maxim that a tee over $60 is overpriced. Sure, it’s Dior, so there is to be some markup expected. But $700 is quite expensive.
For what it’s worth, a portion of those fat profits will go to charity—Rihanna’s charity, to be specific. In a deal announced in February, Dior has teamed up with Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation to benefit impoverished areas around the world. No announcement has been made about how much of the proceeds will go to charity, but one would hope it’s a healthy amount.
