BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — A very dramatic type of camp is taking center stage this summer.
Theatre West Virginia’s Theatre Summer Camp will take place in July, but what does it offer?

The next generation of outdoors sportsmen

One reason to join is that learning about theatre can be a benefit to a child. At this camp, children from kindergarten through 12th grade will learn skills to help in memorization, stage directions, and stage presence.

Gayle Oakes, General Manager for Theatre West Virginia, said it also teaches your children another very important key skill.

“Through the theatre, [children] have learned confidence, and confidence comes with any job that they want to do. I’ve had kids tell me, you know, they wanna be doctors, paleontologists, different things like that, but being in the theatre just helps them. You know, their brain works differently,” said Oakes.

Oakes said the theatre also can also help your children learn to actively listen which is a benefit in a classroom setting.

She said focus, memorization, and public speaking are also skills that your child can pick up during the camp.
