By the time the company closed for good, amid money troubles, G.E. Stimpson Co. office supply had relocated to Route 9 in Shrewsbury.

This week's Then photo, from 1968, shows an earlier address of the company. The building still stands, although with a significant reworking of the facade. It is home to a handful of businesses, mostly medical.

George E. Stimpson was a furniture salesman who eventually became the go-to guy for business clients. He had a reputation for setting up an office. Rolltop desks were a specialty.

He founded G.E. Stimpson Co. in 1900.

After more than 20 years, working in a few rented spots, George Stimpson had a workforce and a catalogue in need of more space. In 1923, the company moved to a new building, one he helped design, shown in this week's Then photo.

The two-story building suited the company until 1968, when it moved to an industrial park — later relocating to Shrewsbury.
