There’s Speculation That Prince Harry’s Memoir May Not “See the Light of Day”

Despite the fact that Prince Harry has released just one (1) very low-key statement about his memoir, everyone has been pretty much spiraling nonstop since it was first announced. And amid reports that Harry is “panicking” and trying to edit the memoir in the wake of the Queen’s death, there’s growing speculation that it won’t be published at all.

According to The Telegraph, royal biographer (and former editor of Tatler, Vanity Fair, and the New Yorker) Tina Brown claimed that Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle are “now in this bind” where they’ve “taken all this money” and Harry is “supposed to spill everything” but he’s allegedly having second thoughts.

“He’s actually tortured about it because he understands there is no way back if he does it,” Tina explained. “If the book continues, I don’t think there is any way for Harry to return. So my view has always been that the book won’t see the light of day.”

She added, “The window is beginning to close, but I always thought at some point a deal would be made and Charles would have to pay back the advance to stop Harry writing this book.”

Harry hasn’t given any updates about his memoir since its initial announcement, but according to a report from The Sun, the Duke of Sussex worries it could be “insensitive” in the wake of the Queen’s death.

“The publishers paid $20 million up front because they knew whatever was written would be huge for sales and exposure all around the world,” a source said. But the first draft they received was disappointing as it was a bit too emotional and focused far more on mental health issues than they wanted.”

The source added, “Eventually, the final draft has been finished and signed off, and a lot of money and energy has been spent to make sure it comes out this year. But Harry has thrown a spanner in the works as he is desperate to get it refined in the light of the Queen’s death, her funeral, and his father Charles taking the throne.”
