'Thighlighting' is the latest plastic surgery trend to hit Hollywood
If you thought strange plastic surgery trends couldn’t get any weirder, we’re sorry to break it to you, because “thighlighting” has arrived.
Not to be confused with any form of highlighting, of course, because that’s far less intense than what’s actually required.
Thighlighting is the umbrella term for a variety of leg-based plastic surgery procedures. Because, nope, the latest trend doesn’t stop at going under the knife once or twice. We’re talking thigh lifts, liposuction, trimming down the inner thighs, and even calf implants, all of which sound incredibly painful and not really worth it.
Surgery in 2017 isn’t just a case of slimming down the legs to make them skinny either, because people are now asking for sculpted, toned legs with a thigh gap and reduced cellulite.
But while the treatments don’t sound too pleasant, they’re also not that surprising, according to Gabriel Chiu, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Beverly Hills.
He told the Hollywood Reporter: “Thighs are always an area of concern for women. Also, thighs are an area that makes a dramatic difference in the overall body. When contoured right to elongate the legs, they can help create a better proportion, thus the entire physique looks leaner and longer.”
Plastic surgeon Rian Maercks of the Maercks Institute in Miami says the celebs whose thighs patients are asking for theirs to look like the most are Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Karlie Kloss, Bella Hadid, and Kendall Jenner.
We’d almost got to the point of thinking any thigh-based attention was out of the way, especially with model Iskra Lawrence’s campaign to encourage women to never worry about their thigh gap, but we should have guessed we wouldn’t be able to walk away that quickly.
