Things to do during the triple-digit heat: July 12-14

DENVER (KDVR) — It’s going to be hotter than hot this weekend, but there are still events you can attend while staying safe in the triple-digit temperatures.

FOX31 meteorologists have issued Pinpoint Weather Alert Days for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service issued heat advisories for most of the Front Range and recommended people stay inside with air conditioning during the hottest parts of the day.

Denver weather: Getting hotter ahead of a triple-digit weekend

According to Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels, the hottest times of the day will be around 1-4 p.m., which is when people should reconsider going outside and rescheduling outdoor activities.

Don’t worry. There are still ways to beat the heat and get out of the house this weekend.

Things to do this weekend

Here are some things you can do indoors or at night once temperatures cool down.

The True Crime & Paranormal Podcast Festival

The True Crime & Paranormal Podcast Festival won’t be in the heat. It will be indoors at the Denver Marriott Westminster from Friday through Sunday. It will feature a host of true crime and paranormal podcast creators with panel discussions and live recordings scheduled throughout the event.

Billy Joel

Billy Joel will be at Coors Field on Friday for his “Billy Joel in Concert” tour. While it’s an outdoor event, the concert starts at 8 p.m. on Friday, which is around when temperatures will begin to cool down. Tickets are still on sale for as low as $50.

Water Lantern Festival

There’s a Water Lantern Festival at Carpenter Park that starts in the evening on both Friday and Saturday, when you’ll miss the hottest parts of the day. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. but the lantern launch doesn’t start until 8 p.m. when the sun is mostly down.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

UFC is heading to Ball Arena and is back in Denver for the first time in six years on Saturday. Dana White, president of UFC, announced on his X account the “main event” with Maycee Barber and Rose Namajunas and the “absolute war” between Mike Malott and Gilbert Urbina.

Colorado Rapids vs. New York Red Bulls

The Colorado Rapids are playing at DICK’s Sporting Goods Park on Saturday, luckily after the hottest time of day. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are still available for just over $30.

While events are going on outside all weekend, it’s important to watch the weather. If your event is outside, be sure to check the event’s website before going, as activities could be canceled due to extreme heat.
