FOND DU LAC – Blues musician Larry McCray will visit Green Lake’s Thrasher Opera House for a Sept. 13 concert.

Other events coming this week in Fond du Lac County include Waupun’s Volkfest, celebrating all things German; a flea market that will benefit the Fond du Lac Lions; and Thelma will host a fundraising dinner with live and silent auctions.

McCray has toured and recorded music for the last 30 years and shared the stage with blues greats including B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Joe Bonamassa, as well as rock legends the Allman Brothers, Phil Lesh, Jonny Lang, Joe Walsh, Dickey Betts and many others.

His latest release, "Blues Without You," 2021, includes 12 tracks and was recorded on famed blues rock guitarist Bonamassa’s Keeping the Blues Alive nonprofit label with producer Josh Smith, a partnership that has also spawned a video (for the upcoming single “Arkansas”) and a documentary.

Thrasher also will host Melissa Carper for a 506 Session at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14. The concert features cocktail table seating for just 80 guests. Tickets are $35.

Waupun celebrates all things German during Volksfest

Waupun will hold its annual Volksfest Sept. 13 and 14 at the Waupun Community Center, 510 E. Spring St. Admission is free and open to all ages.

Volksfest features traditional German food and beer, along with activities and live music from some of Wisconsin’s best polka bands.

Sept. 13 features Bingo at 3 p.m. with 2/5ths Party Band playing at 5 p.m.

Events Sept. 14 begin with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. Bands scheduled to play include Warrior Blaskapelle, Carol & The Keynotes, Gary’s Ridgeland Dutchmen and Dorf Kapelle. A fiddle contest is also included.

Monthly tours of Gottfried grounds offered

Gottfried Prairie and Arboretum offers monthly tours of the arboretum, prairie and ponds. Tours begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 14 at 400 University Drive, Fond du Lac.

Tours are free and take approximately one hour. They will be offered the second Saturday of the month.

Lions Flea Market features 80 vendors with variety of goods

Fond du Lac Lions Club will host a Flea Market Sept. 15. The market will be open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds in the Recreation Center, 520 Fond du Lac Ave.

More than 80 vendors will offer antiques, collectibles, beauty products, crafts, rummage and more.

Admission is $1 per person with children 12 and younger admitted free.

Fundraiser to benefit Thelma set for Sept. 19

Thelma Fundraiser for the Arts, a celebration of art, culture and community, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 19 at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, 51 Sheboygan St.

The event will feature heavy appetizers, sweet treats, interactive art, live entertainment by Maple Road as well as live and silent auction items.
