'Three's Company' Star Joyce DeWitt Looks Incredible in Her Country Music Video Debut
When it comes to classic TV sitcoms, Three's Company, which aired from the late '70s through the early '80s, pretty much tops our list. And Joyce DeWitt as Janet Wood is one of our all-time favorite everygirls.
Through the decades, the 74-year-old actress has enjoyed a prolific stage career, but she occasionally appears on screen too—including a recent performance near and dear to her heart. In a new country music video with the Davisson Brothers Band, the actress had the opportunity to honor her West Virginia roots.
Set to the song "Home"from the album Home Is Where the Heart Is, the video debuted today, June 20, just in time for West Virginia Day. And though the song is about the state specifically, it's also about a feeling many of us can relate to: that ever-present tug toward the place we grew up, no matter how far we wander.
"The deepest part of my heart is anchored in my childhood years in West Virginia," said DeWitt. "I still have quite a large family of relatives there and returning there to visit is absolutely a shot of lifeblood, both to body and soul."
In the video, we see her emotional reaction to hearing the song for the first time, an experience she described as "pure joy."
"We intentionally didn’t let Joyce hear the track until we started rolling cameras, we told her to just listen and improvise, all the emotions are real," said lead guitarist Chris Davisson. "The song really moved her and you can see it in her work.”
The scenes with DeWitt are interspersed with scenes of two young friends talking Hollywood dreams on a rural playground (echoing the lyric “We’d dream about the city life / Leaving that old holler behind”).
We also see the band, which originated in Clarksburg, West Virginia, performing the song and behind-the-scenes glimpses of their life on the road. And, of course, there are plenty of shots of the beautiful West Virginia countryside.
If you watch closely (video below), you can also catch a nod to DeWitt's successes since leaving home to pursue her career. In a scene where she reflects on old family photos, there's a throwback pic of the actress with Three's Company co-stars Suzanne Somers and the late John Ritter, and another of her with the late comedian John Candy.
“Home” is one of 12 tracks on the album Home Is Where the Heart Is released this April by the Davisson Brothers Band, which includes Chris and Donnie Davisson, their nephew Gerrod Bee, and life-long family friend Aaron Regester. The record also features performances by Tim O’Brien, Rob McCoury, Stewart Duncan, Leftover Salmon’s Vince Herman, Ronnie Bowman, Kyle Tuttle, and Lindsay Lou.
