Tiffany Haddish Just Painted Her First Piece to Help Support Inner-City Art Students
What's one role we never thought we'd see Tiffany Haddish take on? A painter. However, when the opportunity to support a cause she's passionate about arose, Haddish voluntarily stepped out of her comfort zone. The Grammy-Award-winning actress recently teamed up with Painting with the Stars, a fundraising initiative that raises money to help provide underprivileged youth access to the arts, by auctioning off paintings created by high-profile individuals.
Haddish's finished piece, alongside other celebrity-made portraits, will head to auction this summer. A portion of these sales will be then be donated to Los Angeles-based nonprofit Inner-City Arts, which offers children a safe and supportive campus to immerse themselves in the arts through instructor-led courses and more.
"I remember what it was like as a kid to do arts and crafts, and I remember what it was like to not be able to do so. So I want to be able to make sure all kids have the opportunity to create," reads a statement by Haddish on the Painting With the Stars website. Having grown up in an impoverished area of the city herself, the comedienne knows what it's like to have limited access to important resources. Not all schools can afford to offer an art program to students.
Now if you're wondering how much painting experience Haddish has, the answer is zip. Painting with the Stars specifically vets celebrities with no experience to prove that one doesn't need a formal art education to create something beautiful. All that's needed is a few simple materials.
Haddish's painting includes details of flowers and a piano, and conveys a whole lot of passion. TMZ got a sneak peek of her portrait here. American Ninja Warrior star Maggie Thorne, comedian Ian Salmon, and other notable figures have also partnered with Painting With the Stars. Learn more here.
