TikTokers Have a Beef with Cosmic Brownies

There’s a video being shared on TikTok lately that has people rethinking what they thought they knew about one of their all-time favorite childhood snacks: the Cosmic Brownie. That’s right—that tiny chocolate rectangle with fudgy frosting and crunchy multi-colored candy-coated pieces wrapped in crinkly plastic. People are debating whether or not the brownies always had a line down the middle or not. TikTokers are very good at getting to the bottom of any #foodtok mystery, though, and we’re ready to dive into it to set the story straight.

What has changed about Cosmic Brownies?

According to users on Reddit and TikTok, the brownies from their grade-school lunchboxes definitely had a line down the middle, with one TikToker remembering “Yup, I used to fold them in half and shove the whole thing in my mouth lmao.”

However, when picking up a package these days, some users are noticing that the line is missing. There’s even a petition on change.org to put the line back on the brownies, with one commenter saying “Yall are ruining one of the ONLY GOOD THINGS OF MY CHILDHOOD please put the lines back please.”

But fear not, the line isn’t actually gone. TikTokers have confirmed that the regular six-pack of the fudgy treats does have a line, but that there is no line in brownies sold in 12-pack or the single-serving packages. (I can also personally confirm this. I went to the store and saw the packages with my own eyes.) Problem one solved.

The next issue is that TikTokers were convinced the recipe for Cosmic Brownies has changed. Users are saying that Little Debbie used to put honey in the brownies and the sweet ingredient has been taken out. The product development team at Little Debbie says that honey was never part of the Cosmic Brownie recipe.

It's hard to know what's going on here. It could be that people's tastes have changed as they've grown up. “Am I just getting old or has the recipe changed? It's bad now :(“ said one user. But others saying they’re still pretty good, with one Redditor saying “Just ate one last night. Microwave for 25 seconds and it's 100% better.” The upshot? We can't solve the honey vs. no honey debate, so you'll have to buy a pack for yourself and see what you think.
