Tim McGraw Details Injury That Forced Him to Stop Running
Tim McGraw's pre-show warm-ups look a little different these days.
In years past, the country musician "used to run seven or eight miles before every show," but after injuring himself one too many times, those long runs are no longer in the cards.
The "Live Like You Were Dying" singer opened up about the shift with Entertainment Tonight Canada, sharing that his pre-show rituals now consist of a more leisurely walk.
"I can’t run anymore because I’ve broken my foot so many times," he said. "I start every day with an hour walk."
He won't cut exercise altogether, though—he loves to indulge in wife Faith Hill's southern cooking. "She’ll cook anything, but my cheat meal is usually peas, cornbread, collared greens, pork chops, fries and gravy," he said.
He also enjoys "Coca-Cola cake" and sometimes sneaks a bowl of cereal in after dinner. "My wife can tell when I get up in the middle of the night because I leave a trail of Cocoa Puffs all over ’cause I overfill my bowl," he joked.
He became more conscientious of his health after starring in Four Christmases back in the early aughts, after his oldest daughter Gracie noted that, at 215 pounds, he looked "big on the screen."
Through diet and exercise changes, cutting out alcohol, burgers, and other "truck-stop foods,” and incorporating running and lifting, McGraw lost 40 pounds.
“I was in the prime of my career, and I wasn’t capitalizing on it,” McGraw told Men’s Health. Now, several hours before each concert, he and his band work out together—sans the run, of course.
