“TIME Magazine” just released the shortlist for 2017’s Person of the Year
It’s that time of year again: When we find out who will win the title of TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year. It’s a controversial and prestigious title, to say the least. The honor goes to the person (or persons, or in some cases, thing) that had the most influence over the past year. Past winners have included former President Barack Obama, the Apollo 8 astronauts, and the computer.
And while TIME has made controversial choices in the past, the race to this years’ winner may be the most contentious yet. Here’s who’s made the shortlist so far:
President Donald Trump is allegedly on the list. This news comes after Trump famously declared on Twitter that he was offered the title, but had to turn it down. TIME quickly responded by explaining that no such offer had been made. Trump has already made the cut, having won the title back in 2016.
Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!

Other contenders include former quarterback Colin Kaepernick for his powerful stand against police brutality, and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Special Counsel Robert Mueller, and the women behind the #MeToo hashtag also made the cut. Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins made the list as well, alongside Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Last, but certainly not least on this powerful list, are the Dreamers, children of undocumented illegal immigrants who were brought to America as small children.

These nominees, and what they represent, prove one thing is for certain: 2017 was a year no one will forget. We can’t wait to see how this unfolds.
