Tips for first-time school bus riders
BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – As summer winds down, schools are getting ready to welcome students back.
But for some students, it’ll be their first time going to school… and that means they’ll be riding the bus for the first time, which can be daunting for both the kids and their parents.

Matthew Harper, the Director of Transportation for Fayette County Schools shares some useful information that should settle some nerves and ensure a smooth ride. He says parents should be getting a call from the student’s bus driver a few days before school starts with information about pick ups and drop offs. He also asks that parents instruct their children to stay in their seats and not to jump around, yelling and screaming.
Parents might think about pairing their first-time rider with an older student that’s already taken the bus, if they know one. As with many firsts, they can be scary, but that’s where you find growth. Good luck to all the first-time bus riders!
