Toby Keith Feels Like His Health Is "Turning A Corner"
Toby Keith has had a rough few years, healthwise. The "Should’ve Been A Cowboy" singer shared in 2022 that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer and was undergoing treatment for it, including chemo, radiation, and surgery. Now, the country legend has a new announcement to share: He’s “turning a corner”.
Keith stopped by the podcast, Katie & Company, and told host Katie Neal that he finally seems to be on the mend. “I’m doing really good,” he told host Katie Neal, per the Post and Courier. “It’s been a tough two years, but I think I’m turning a corner.”
Keith admitted that when he first heard the news he didn’t think he had long to live. “When you get diagnosed [with cancer], you just freak,” he said. His son was getting married in a month’s time and he was supposed to walk his daughter-in-law-to-be down the aisle, and he didn’t think he would be around to do it. Now, nearly two years on, he’s calling himself “so blessed” and working on “getting into fightin’ shape.”
Anyone who has been around cancer knows that it is a tough opponent and that is true for Keith as well. He told the podcast host that he’s not sure “if you’re ever done with [cancer]”, but he’s “trying to be.”
For now, the Oklahoma-born star is focused on being “happy and healthy and excited” to be “back on country radio.” The award-winning singer and songwriter has been surprising fans with performances and an appearance at the People’s Choice Country Awards in September, where he was honored with the night’s Country Icon Award. He also headlined sold-out Las Vegas shows in December.
