'Today' Anchor Gives Honest Opinion on Whether 'The Morning Show' is Accurate

The Morning Joe and Sunday Today reporter Willie Geist is a fan of The Morning Show but doesn't think it accurately depicts what it's like to work in broadcast news.

Geist joined host Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live!, where a trio of friends tuning into the show had the opportunity to ask Geist his thoughts on the Apple TV+ series.

"You know, I resisted it for a while, and then I watched it. It's just a great show. It's so entertaining. Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Billy Crudup," said Geist.

"Is it?" questioned a skeptical Andy Cohen.

Geist responded by saying it's a "great show," but the Bravo host said he thought "season one was laughable."

"Right, but you gotta stay with it," said Geist. "Okay, I didn't say with it," admitted Cohen.

Geist clarified that The Morning Show is "not an accurate depiction of morning television, but that's beside the point. It's fun. It's a good watch."

The 48-year-old TV anchor also highlighted what his daily work routine entails.

Cohen asked Geist what time he had to wake up for Morning Joe. "I'm going to push it to 5 tomorrow, just to treat myself," said Geist, who celebrated his birthday the next day. He revealed he usually wakes up at 4:30 a.m. and is on air at 6 a.m. He broke down how his birthday morning routine would go: "Out the door at 5:18 a.m., at 30 Rock at 5:30 a.m."

Geist also noted that though he doesn't do his own makeup for the show post-COVID, he's "in and out" of the makeup chair, allowing him to be on air quickly after waking up.

As for The Morning Show, it was recently renewed for a fourth season, ahead of the third season. No release date has been shared for when the next episodes air.
