'Today' Hosts Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones, Dylan Dreyer and Craig Melvin Share Their Favorite Holiday Traditions
Here at Good Housekeeping, we've been thinking a lot about family traditions. It's not lost on us that many won't be able to spend the holidays with those they love this year, so we're encouraging everyone around us to share their favorite holiday memories and the new ones they're planning to create in an effort to find some comfort and warmth during these unprecedented times.
And we're not the only ones. Our friends over at the Today show are hosting a special called Holidays in My House that airs on December 15 at 8 p.m. ET on Today All Day, where your favorite anchors will be revealing how they celebrate the season.
Ahead of the special, Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones, Dylan Dreyer and Craig Melvin chatted with us about some of the meals and traditions that make their holidays unique and meaningful.
"Sweet Potato Poon, basically sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, is a Thanksgiving staple in my family. Growing up, one of us kids would distract my mom as soon as the dish went under the broiler. Inevitably, the top would burn and the smoke alarm would go off. It provided us with endless entertainment."
"We usually spend Christmas with my husband’s family in Chicago. Before we open gifts, we talk about the true meaning of Christmas. I know things may look a little different this year, but now more than ever, I look forward to the warm feelings the holiday season brings."
"My husband, Brian, and I have a collection of ornaments from the big moments in our lives — when we got married and when we had kids. As I was growing up, my mom always unwrapped the ornaments one by one and told us the story of each. It takes a while, but it’s worth it."
"On Christmas Day, we sing "Happy Birthday" to a little ceramic baby Jesus in a manger and blow out a candle on a cake. My wife Lindsay’s grandparents started the tradition years ago, and I recall thinking it was a joke. It was not."
