Toddler allegedly returns home from daycare with braid ripped off scalp: 'This is a lawsuit'
A mom is speaking out after her young daughter allegedly returned from daycare with one of her braids ripped off her scalp.
The Georgia mother, whose first name is Arielle, took to Instagram on Thursday to share a photo of her 3-year-old daughter Alani, after the alleged incident. According to her post, Alani said that a “little boy bit her braid” and then ripped it off her head, but the Fayetteville daycare provider denied that this happened.
“I called the daycare provider EXTREMELY PISSED ... and she tells me that my child is lying and she was not aware of this happening,” the mom wrote. “Then she went on to say that my child probably pulled it herself...”
The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning tells Yahoo Lifestyle it is “very familiar” with this situation, and confirmed the name of the provider, adding that she operates under the name “Blessings Daycare.”
“The health and safety of Georgia’s youngest learners and peace of mind for their families is always our top priority,” a spokesperson for the department says, adding there is no further comment because the investigation is still ongoing.
According to the most recently available compliance study report of the daycare, dated May 1, Blessings Daycare is in good standing for all categories and has one caregiver watching six children.
However, people sided with the mother in the comments section of her Instagram post, and one went as far as telling her “hire an attorney,” claiming that “this is a lawsuit.”
Arielle told Atlanta station 11Alive, “I'm trying to keep my composure because that's the only thing right at this time...My child's hair has been ripped from her scalp. This is not weave, this are not any extensions. These are braids coming from her real hair from her scalp."
The little girl stopped attending the daycare on Tuesday. "She is my child and I’m going to defend her every chance I get," Arielle told 11Alive.
The daycare provider did not return Yahoo Lifestyle’s call for comment, and the mother did not immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle.
