Tom Brady 'Fake' Montreal Expos Superfractor Card Already Has a Staggering Offer
It may have been all a dream, but a signed, one-of-a-kind Tom Brady Montreal Expos Superfractor card already has a hefty offer on the table.
Topps unveiled the card on so-called "Brady Day" this week on 12/12, for Brady's number 12 jersey, as part of the trading card and collectible company's new Bowman Draft line. It features Brady as a "rookie" for the Expos in 1995, as a playful nod to what might have been if the 46-year-old had played 23 seasons with the MLB instead of on the New England Patriots.
Hidden among the boxes are several rare cards, some signed by the man himself, including a one-of-a-kind signed Superfractor which was pulled by Triple Diamond Sports Breaks on Tuesday night. Experts estimate the card's value to be in the six-figure range.
However, there's still another rare card that has yet to turn up, this one featuring an inscription from Brady that reads: "If baseball doesn't work out, there's always football." And according to TMZ Sports, a collector has already placed a $500,000 bounty on that card.
As diehard fans are undoubtedly already aware, Brady was selected in the 18th round of the 1995 MLB Draft by the Expos, but instead decided to follow through with an offer to play college football with the University of Michigan. The rookie card features a young Brady wearing an Expos uniform, despite the fact that he never made his official debut with the sport.
The accompanying ad campaign recruited Vladimir Guerrero, Larry Walker, and Pedro Martinez—who all played for the Expos at the time—to reminisce about Brady's supposedly legendary baseball career in a present-day alternate universe. The spot even included winked at the Patriots two Super Bowl losses to the Giants. But in the new timeline, it was the San Fransisco Giants, not the New York Giants, who defeated Brady and his team.
Brady's former rival Eli Manning—who played for the Giants during those two Super Bowl defeats—even got in on the action, posting his own video set in the alternate timeline.
"Hey Tom, I hear it's Brady Day, and it seems like people are sharing their favorite moments from your career," Manning said while donning a San Fransisco Giants uniform. "So I wanna add my thoughts. Man, what a run you had; 23 years, seven world championships, multiple MVPs ... you're a Montreal legend."
"Personally, my favorite moments were those Giants championships," he added, flashing two World Series rings. "You've got a special place in the hearts of all of us from San Fransisco."
