Tom Hanks' Wife Rita Wilson Addresses Red Carpet 'Scolding'

Rita Wilson is putting the rumors to rest regarding the recent controversy surrounding her husband Tom Hanks and what appeared to be an altercation at the Cannes Film Festival this week.

The married couple were attending the screening of Hanks' new movie Asteroid City on Tuesday, May 23, when the A-list actor was photographed while in the middle of what looked like a tense conversation with a staff member at the event.

Hanks, 66, and Wilson, 66, quickly made headlines after the photo became viral, with various reports alleging that the A Man Called Otto star was "scolding" the staffer, while pointing a finger at him and supposedly yelling at him. Wilson was also present for the incident, appearing to be equally invested in the conversation, which one Twitter account called an "explosive altercation."

But the Sleepless in Seattle actress finally put the drama to rest after the event, taking to her Instagram Story to shut down the swirling reports.

Sharing a pic of one news article, WIlson clarified, "This is called 'I can't hear you.' People are screaming. 'What did you say? Where are we supposed to go?'" she wrote, explaining the reason for the intensity in their faces during the conversation with the staffer, who has since been identified as PR manager Vincent Chapalain.

Wilson went on to say, "But that doesn't sell stories! Nice try. We had a great time!"

"Go see 'Asteroid City!'," she concluded.

Hanks stars in the new comedy drama film alongside a slew of other notable names, including Scarlett Johansson, Maya Hawke, Jason Schwartzman and more.

Asteroid City is scheduled to release in theaters on June 16.
