The top 3 Milan Fashion Week trends to add to your closet
To say Milan Fashion Week produced some of the buzziest moments of the season is an understatement. For one, Gucci’s show included fake severed heads as “accessories” — a fashion statement that gripped the social media world so heavily, users began the #GucciChallenge to show off their own “severed heads.” At Dolce & Gabbana’s show, drones played a pivotal part, carrying the collection’s handbags across the runway, while puppies became the most unexpected, adorable parts of Tod’s show.
Then there was Prada, whose show opened with Anok Yai, a young Sudanese woman plucked from obscurity after her photo at Howard University’s homecoming went viral. She became the third black model ever to do so (after Jourdan Dunn and Naomi Campbell). It is fair to say that the fashion trends were equally memorable.
Ahead are the three breakout trends from MFW that you can add to your wardrobe now via our curated Polyvore trend boards.
Now that puffer coats have been universally accepted as fashionable (thanks to Balenciaga), they continue to take on new shapes and proportions this season. At Emilio Pucci, a model wears a graphic printed puffer scarf. Karl Lagerfeld reimagines the classic puffer in a shiny, cropped version for Fendi. Agnona introduces a pretty lavender version, cinched with a belt (also a trend this season). At Sportmax, models layered their sporty cropped versions over track jackets and styled with chic midi skirts.

The ’80s belt styling trick is back in full force. It’s time to rummage through your closet, your favorite vintage stores and Goodwill to find that perfect belt, whether you like it skinny, wide, black, white, or colorful. Cinch it around your favorite shirt, jacket, coat, or off-the-shoulder dress, as seen at Alberta Ferretti, Emilio Pucci, Fendi, and Marni. This just might be the best styling trick this year that is both budget friendly and easy to do.

The ’80s continue to thrive at MFW, echoing styles seen at LFW and NYFW. Prada’s creative director, Miuccia Prada, and Moschino’s Jeremy Scott paved the way for neon colors to shine bright in Italy. Neon green, pink, orange, and yellow are now accepted as this season’s color palette. You can layer the colors together like Prada and Marni, or dress monochromatically like Moschino.
