The Top 5 Weight Loss Myths You Need to Know for the New Year

It’s the new year which means lots of people are embarking on new weight loss routines. But Dr Ian warns that you may be building your weight loss plans around myths that won’t actually help you lose any inches! Check out the top five weight loss myths according to Dr. Ian:

Myth 1: Drinking Water Will Help You Lose Weight

Dr. Ian says that simply drinking extra water can’t help you lose weight. He also says that there is no magic number to how much water you need to drink per day, because everyone is different. Some people could get away with only drinking 4.5 cups per day.

Myth 2: A Vegetarian Diet Will Help You Lose Weight

Dr. Ian claims that a vegetarian diet can actually hinder weight loss if you’re going overboard on carbs and fats.

Myth 3: Fat Will Make You Fat

Not true, says Dr. Ian. In fact, 30 percent of your calories should be coming from fat. He cautions that you just need to make sure you are getting unsaturated, healthy fats and not overdoing it.

Myth 4: All Calories Are Created Equal

Even if a candy bar and a bowl of fruit have the same amount of calories, they are not equal. With the fruit, you will be getting many more nutrients.

Myth 5: Sex is Good Exercise

Dr. Ian says that it’s a myth that sex is a good workout. He says that the average person is only going to burn about 21 calories during a roll in the hay, whereas doing nothing, you will burn about 7.5 calories in that same amount of time.
