It's time for those summer-bleached strands to get a refresh for fall. Here, three top stylists from Los Angeles to New York share the hair colors that are trending this season.

Zinfandel Red

According to Stephanie Brown, colorist at IGK Salons in New York, "Everyone loves red tones right now." Think Zendaya’s Ariel-esque auburn hair at the Emmy’s this year. "I’m calling it Zinfandel red, which is a toned down, warm red that’s more wearable for every day," says Brown. Ask your colorist to mix in neutral and subtle highlights and lowlights throughout to create a similar look.

Autumn Glow

Not ready for red? Try going bronze like Mandy. "This is a dimensional brunette color that has a subtle glow to it," explains Nikki Lee, co-founder of Nine Zero One salon in Hollywood. (She's responsible for Mandy's gorgeous color above.) "The key is to not overdo the highlights. Just add a few bronzy pieces from the midshaft through the ends and away from the roots. A few strands around the face will do it." For the at-home colorists, Nikki recommends Garnier Nutrisse Nourishing Color Creme H3 Warm Bronze Highlighting Kit ($14).

Gingerbread Brown

This neutral, unfussy brunette (like the one Kaia Gerber is wearing above) is really pretty for fall and winter. "It’s not quite as light as the bronde or mushroom blonde that trended in years past, but is a medium brown that’s very earthy," explains Brown. If you’re naturally brunette, "you can go lighter by adding a few highlights around the face and tips of the hair and finish off with a golden gloss to make it look natural," says Jamie Levin, a colorist at Mare Salon in West Hollywood, California.

Gold Obsidian

For ladies who have dark, almost black hair, Brown recommends weaving in some soft golden undertones. "Warmer hair is more flattering on most skin tones, but be careful not to go eggplant, which is more of a purple. Just make sure your colorist doesn’t add any red to your hair. Ask for both lowlights and warm highlights to give a shimmery, glossy variation to the [color]. You want it to look as if gold flecks are being reflected in the light," says Brown.

Rooted Citrine Blonde

"The rooted look is really big right now because it’s lower maintenance and gives your hair a lived-in, cool girl feel," explains Brown. "It also prevents that stripe-y look from happening, as can sometimes happen with fresh highlights." For a rooted look, start the highlights about an inch to an inch and a half from the scalp.

Platinum Blonde

"We saw the return of platinum blonde on the runways for the fall and winter collections at fashion week this year," says Levin. "Platinum blonde tends to work really well on both super fair skin or ladies with olive or tan skin." Note: Depending on how dark your hair is to start, you might have to do this in stages to preserve the health of your hair.
