Topher Grace’s Wife Speaks Out After ‘That ‘70s Show’s Danny Masterson Sentencing
Ashley Hinshaw, the wife of That '70s Show star Topher Grace, issued a statement following the news that her husband's former co-star Danny Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women.
On Friday, Sept. 8, just a day after Masterson's sentencing, Hinshaw took to her Instagram Stories with a message supporting sexual abuse survivors.
"To every rape victim that is retraumatized by witnessing society debate and focus their attention on what is going to happen to the RAPIST… I see you," she wrote on top of an image of a blue sky and trees per screenshots published by Page Six.
While Grace has not publicly discussed Masterson's conviction or sentencing, some fans have praised the actor for his lack of commentary.
"Thank you for not writing a letter for danny like the rest of your cast," one Instagram user wrote on Grace's latest upload, hinting at the backlash Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis received after writing letters to the judge about Masterson's character. Fellow That '70s Show stars Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith, who played Kitty and Red, also wrote letters before his sentencing.
Kutcher and Kunis later addressed the backlash on Instagram, saying, “We are aware of the pain that has been caused by the character letters that we wrote on behalf of Danny Masterson." The joint statement continued, adding that they "support victims."
In the wake of Masterson's sentencing, the internet dug up an old video of Masterson appearing as a guest on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, with the conversation making many uncomfortable in light of Masterson's crimes.
Masterson—who did not take the stand in his 2022 trial, which ended in a mistrial, or 2023 his trial—has repeatedly denied the sexual assault allegations, per NBC News.
Hinshaw, who is an actor like her husband, has always been very vocal about important issues on her social media, with posts about LGBTQ+ rights and gun control visible on her profile. Recently, she went back to school to get a Masters in social work from the University of Southern California.
