Tori Spelling called 'delusional' for Instagram celebrating wedding anniversary: 'Once a cheater, always a cheater'
Tori Spelling became the target of criticism on Wednesday after she posted a doting anniversary tribute to husband Dean McDermott on Instagram.
Spelling added a photo of herself and McDermott on their wedding day on May 7, 2006. In the caption, she called McDermott “my soulmate” and “my best friend,” and thanked him for being “my partner in this lifetime.” She added, “I love that 13 years later we still have the passion of newlyweds.”
But many commenters were not too keen on the gushing homage, feeling the actress had glossed over some very blatant betrayals, namely a highly publicized cheating scandal that the couple worked through on their docu-series True Tori.

“You left out cheating s***bag,” one person wrote. “Guess you’re too insecure and weak to admit you should of [sic] left him a long time ago.” Another added, “Once a cheater, always a cheater.”
“She legit put her horrible cheating husband their drama on TV for all to see,” someone commented. “That includes her children one day. Soulmate?? Delusion.”
“Who are you trying to kid? Honestly, Tori,” another person wrote. “Weren’t most of those 13 years spent in misery and in tears? I do believe there is a TV show that documents most of it.
Others ignored the sentiment and went after the sometime actor’s apparent lack of a career. “Does he have a job yet?” one person commented. In 2017, McDermott’s ex-wife, Mary Jo Eustace, publicly called him “a deadbeat dad” and claimed he owed her $100,000 in backed up child support payments for their son, Jack, McDermott’s first of six kids.
Spelling and McDermott have chronicled the ups and downs of their marriage on four TV shows — Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood, Tori & Dean: sTORIbook Weddings, Tori & Dean: Cabin Fever and True Tori. Their memorable downs have included blowout, onscreen fights about the couple’s financial woes, parenting their five children, and, of course, McDermott’s infidelity.
In early 2018, Spelling allegedly had a mental breakdown from the stress of her marriage to McDermott, among other hardships.
Some commenters seemed to empathize with Spelling’s struggles, and found her anniversary post heartfelt and relatable. Some stepped up to the plate to defend Spelling.
“Life isn’t easy or perfect,” one person wrote. “I love how you stay together and work through it instead of taking the path of giving up. It’s a lot of work and really HARD but you dig deep and try again.”
“All of you attacking her for her past? Everyone in life has done something they’re not proud of,” another commented. “They’ve paid for any sins committed and they’ve asked for forgiveness of their exes. They owe is nothing.”
“Wow! She’s celebrating her anniversary and all the hate,” some wrote. “It is her life her choice. Get a real hobby?”
Some commenters were “happy that you guys were able to get past all of the drama,” as one person put it, and simply wished the couple a happy anniversary. “And through all these years, you’ve proven all your haters wrong,” influencer Chris Crocker wrote. “Love WINS!!”
