Alex and Sarah Schilke were celebrating their big day at the Grand Geneva Resort and Spa Hotel in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. But halfway through their wedding reception, a tornado warning forced the newlyweds and their guests to shelter in the venue’s basement.

To make matters worse, the power went out once they relocated.

“Chaos ensued and people started to get a little bit more agitated and freaked out,” Sarah said. “The AC obviously wasn't on either, so everybody's getting hot and it's getting uncomfortable.”

In a twist of fate, Jack Jones was at the resort for a family reunion. Jack's an amateur musician, and when his family learned that Alex and Sarah hadn’t yet had their first dance, they volunteered his services. Though the singer and guitarist was a bit nervous.

“This is in front of more people than I usually sing in front of,” he said. “And then I go, oh my gosh, it's this couple's first dance. This is a special moment in their life that you need to lock in for and do a good job.”

Jack's generosity saved the day. His family members were also welcome guests in the intimate basement setting.

“It was probably not even 30 seconds into it that there was not a dry eye in that room,” Alex said. “It was just surreal and very emotional.”

For Sarah, despite 13 months of meticulous wedding planning, the unexpected moment filled her heart in a way she couldn't have anticipated.

"That moment of having our loved ones and strangers come together to create this beautiful moment and share it with us was so important,” Sarah said. "It restored my faith in humanity."
