From Harper's BAZAAR

When Apple told me that they were giving me the new iPhone XS to use during Emmy weekend, and in the new all-gold color that so pretty, I was super thrilled! But when they said I had to do a tech review, I was a little less thrilled because, well, I don’t speak tech. However, I do speak selfie and I’m fluent in Instagram, so I was like what the heck! Let’s do this!

Soooo the first thing I wanted to know about (which is the first thing I KNOW you want to know about) is the camera. I’ll tell you the stuff Apple told me: There’s advanced depth segmentation in Portrait mode which allows enables more sophisticated portraits with professional-level bokeh.

Depth Control lets you adjust the depth of field after you shoot, and Smart HDR brings more highlight and shadow detail to your photos. And what does all that mean? Better photos! And even better selfies! Like majorly gorgeous photos. Even in low light, as you can see in my cute selfie with Handmaid’s Tale star Samira Wiley at the Hollywood Reporter pre-Emmys party. I couldn’t tell the difference between the photos taken with the iPhone XS or a professional camera. So your outfit pics are gonna be real poppin'!

In addition to the amazeballs camera, the phone itself has the smartest, most powerful chip in all the land. That means the phone is faster, the wifi is faster, and it uses the battery more efficiently. Which means what? More time to get your emails handled, check the headlines, read up on candidates for midterms, donate to your favorite charity, and more.

Another great thing? The iPhone XS and XsMax are splash, dust, and water-resistant, which made me feel much better while having fun taking pics at Issa Rae’s yacht party. (Note: there’s no amount of water resistance that would’ve protected me had I dropped my phone in the ocean. Do not drop your phone in the ocean, no matter what phone you have. But I didn’t have to worry about a little cocktail spillage.)

And thanks to better battery usage, I knew I wouldn’t run out of juice. Plus the phone now has up to 512GB capacity, the biggest ever! Which means more space for apps, music, TV shows for binging, and outfit pics, like the one I took after the Emmys because I was so in love with my dress!

So if you're thinking about getting this phone, I say go forth. Take those amazing pics with reckless abandon. Get your social activism on all day long! It’s got the official Tracee Ellis Ross stamp of approval! And your Instagram feed will thank you : )
