Track Breckenridge’s fall colors from your phone with new ‘Leaf brief’ tool
DENVER (KDVR) — If you’re not in the mountains, it can be hard to determine when is the best time to grab your camera and take off for a leaf-centric Colorado road trip, but Breckenridge has introduced a new tool to help tourists see the most during their visit.
The Breckenridge Tourism Office launched the initiative on Thursday. The Leaf Brief uses photos to provide real-time updates on the area’s renowned fall leaves.

“Breckenridge sits at 9,600 feet of elevation, so we start getting cooler overnight temperatures that trigger changing colors much sooner than the rest of the country,” said Ella Gerner, Naturalist for the Town of Breckenridge, in the town’s announcement. “Right now, we’re predicting peak fall foliage in the third and fourth week of September. Young aspens that are getting a lot of sun have already started to peak, but there are many trails and aspen groves where the colors haven’t begun to change just yet.”
Updates began at noon on Thursday and will continue every other day through the fall, which the city anticipates will last four to six weeks. The initiative will also help educate visitors on how to predict peak colors and will also include trail recommendations for the best colors and other tips to enjoy fall colors in Breckenridge.
The Leaf Brief webpage also includes information on where to stay and fall festivals in Breckenridge, which include Oktoberfest, the Breck Film Fest and Breckenridge Bluegrass and Beer.
