British politician hits back after her shoulder-baring outfit goes viral: 'I'm not a slag'
A British politician has hit back at criticism of her choice of outfit following complaints that it was not “appropriate attire” for the House of Commons.
Shadow culture secretary Tracy Brabin, a member of Parliament (MP) for the Labour Party, wore an off-the-shoulder dress during a debate in Parliament on Tuesday.
The Batley and Spen MP was criticized by a Twitter user who posted a picture of her wearing the outfit, asking, "Is this really appropriate attire for Parliament?"
Brabin replied to the tweet and defended herself from shaming comments.
"I’m not a slag, Hungover, A tart, About to breastfeed, A slapper, Drunk, Just been banged over a wheelie bin,” she wrote.
Hello. Sorry I don’t have time to reply to all of you commenting on this but I can confirm I’m not....
A slag
Hungover
A tart
About to breastfeed
A slapper
Drunk
Just been banged over a wheelie bin.
Who knew people could get so emotional over a shoulder... 🙄 https://t.co/sTWWiEY2TF— Tracy Brabin MP 🌹 (@TracyBrabin) February 4, 2020
Reaction to the outfit was mixed, with some people agreeing with the criticism, while others took to Twitter to support her.
Brabin, a former actress who appeared in shows including Coronation Street, The Ghost Hunter and EastEnders, wore the outfit while raising a point of order on Downing Street's decision to order senior journalists from some major news organizations to leave before a briefing on Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Brexit plans.
