Trader Joe's Just Opened a Brand New One-of-a-Kind Store—Here's What You Need to Know
Trader Joe’s in New York City’s Union Square just received a pretty interesting upgrade that has the potential to be a major time saver for a lot of local residents. Positioned right on top of one of the largest transportation hubs in the city, Trader Joe’s at Union Square has historically been a consistently busy location. And when extremely high foot traffic meets a city that never sleeps, it makes shopping at this specific Trader Joe’s hardly an in-and-out experience, cursed with incessantly long lines.
In an effort to alleviate some of the congestion, Trader Joe’s has erected a grab-and-go location directly next door inside of the grocers previously occupied Wine Shop, which suddenly closed back in 2022 and has since been empty. Aptly named Trader Joe’s Pronto, this location acts as an express shopping experience featuring a slew of pre-packaged items geared towards those who are in a time crunch and need a quick fix while on the run. And as it turns out, the new shopping experience is clearly a product of its environment, since it will be the only one of its kind across the U.S., ever.

“Trader Joe's Pronto is a one-of-a-kind extension of our store in Union Square,” a spokesperson from the company said. “This additional space allows us to carry more of the products our customers in this neighborhood purchase daily."
While on a quick walk in the city, one local took to TikTok to spread the news of the latest addition to the Union Square Trader Joe’s and give viewers a peek inside.
“I think it’s pretty cool,” Evaknuds says in her video, “you get to avoid the lines at the actual Trader Joe’s that they have right next door.”
She goes on to describe the new store as a “grab-and-go” experience that offers a bunch of prepackaged items like wraps, salads, fruits, drinks, snacks, yogurts and more. Without the business of the usual Trader Joe’s shopping experience next door, all of the items available are geared towards finding a quick lunch or dinner option while on the run.
The only question we have is, what’s stopping Trader Joe’s Pronto from becoming just as busy as its full service counterpart next door? Only time will tell.
