Trailer for 'BlackBerry' Shares Playful Retelling of Smartphone Giant's Rise and Fall
Announced last year, we have now received the trailer for IFC Films' BlackBerry film. Straying from the serious dramatic tone of other films about tech, the upcoming film serves as a playful retelling of the Canadian smartphone giant's rise and fall.
The unexpected lighthearted look into an interesting part of tech history stars Jay Baruchel and Glenn Howerton as Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, the former co-CEOs of the Canadian firm Research in Motion. Highlighting the origins of RIM as an outlandish idea among college students, the film outlines the points in time that pushed the company into revolutionizing the mobile communications landscape. Ultimately showcasing the implosion that occurred as Apple and Android followed RIM's footsteps while looking toward innovation.
The BlackBerry film is based on 2015's Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry book written by Globe and Mail reporters Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff.
