Trains Are Trending at the CFDA Fashion Awards 2023: Serena Williams in Thom Browne and More Stars Who Brought the Drama
Trains took the “white carpet” by storm on Monday during the CFDA Fashion Awards in New York, with notables like Serena Williams, Coco Rocha and La La Anthony bringing sweeping statements to the star-studded spectacle.
As reported by WWD, over-the-top trains are one of this season’s top trends. Labels like Victoria Beckham, Rick Owens and Moschino embraced bold flares, sending mullet, mermaid and trumpet silhouettes down the runway during the Paris and Milan fashion weeks.

Serena Williams
Williams, the recipient of the evening’s esteemed Fashion Icon Award, made a bold entrance in a couture Thom Browne gown covered in black sequins. The tennis star’s draped frock featured a draped skirt and voluminous puff sleeves adorned with dangling crystal embellishments. Williams accessorized with a statement diamond necklace and a pair of tiny bejeweled hoop earrings.
Coco Rocha
Rocha’s Christian Siriano ensemble seemingly nodded to Christian Dior’s New Look, featuring a wide-brim hat with a rounded silhouette and wrapped in trailing blush ribbons. Rocha’s gown was comprised of a black three-dimensional bodice adorned with ruffles, while her column skirt included a thigh-high slit. Towering satin platforms completed Rocha’s ostentatious outfit.
La La Anthony
La La Anthony opted for a chocolate satin corset bodysuit and a plush matching wrap by Saint Sintra. She added on a pair of black tights, point-toe pumps and a gold collar choker.
Since 1980, the Council of Fashion Designers of America has celebrated the top talent in fashion design with the CFDA Fashion Awards. Presented by Amazon Fashion, this year’s ceremony is held at the Museum of Natural History and hosted by actress Anne Hathaway.
Bridal couturier (and longtime CFDA member) Vera Wang is set to receive the Board of Directors Tribute, while New York-based designer Mara Hoffman will be honored with the Environmental Sustainability Award.
